Linda Ward was lucky enough to have been born and raised on a dairy farm in the heart of Vermont when draft horses were still being used by her Dad. She learned to ride, drive and care for horses under the watchful eye of a father who appreciated them. Those early years brought experience and knowledge that would allow for a lifetime of enjoyment and appreciation of riding and driving everything from ponies to percherons.
Adult driving experiences have come from training, pleasure shows, combined driving, clinics (both as a clinician and as a participant) carriage rides as fund raisers, draft horse equipment demonstrations, local draft horse shows and lesson giving. Several years were spent designing and judging obstacle courses for the Vermont Morgan Horse Association.
The public highlight of this career so far has been the training and competing of "Jack" a Morgan gelding. Jack was purchased as a 2 year old with no training. In fact he had never been out of the pasture he was born in. With his wonderful mind and 5 years of training and conditioning along with a couple of clinics with Larry Poulin, he and Linda, along with her daughter Jennifer as groom/navigator, traveled to Gladstone, NJ to one of the nations premier combined driving events and WON!
Linda has been involved for many years in the local Pony Club, The Vermont Morgan Horse Association, The Green Mountain Draft Horse Association, The American Driving Society, (since 1987) Carriage Association of America, Percheron Association of America and most recently, the Certified Horsemanship Association.
